The nation’s first incorporated hospital.
Founded by Benjamin Franklin and Dr. Thomas Bond in 1751 "to care for the sick-poor and insane who were wandering the streets of Philadelphia." It’s also home to America’s first surgical amphitheatre (lit by its large dome, as there was no electricity at the time) and first medical library. Dr. Benjamin Rush was a staff doctor here.
